The Spanish language program at the River School reflects our belief that second language acquisition should begin at an early age. Research supports the positive link between second language proficiency and cognitive and academic ability. Additional benefits include enhancing economic opportunities while promoting tolerance and intercultural awareness. The goal of the Spanish program is to present language studies so the experience is positive and exposure engenders an appreciation of other cultures as well as a desire to continue learning. Lessons are planned to motivate children to acquire basic communications skills in a low-stress environment, using games, songs, and other activities to create a meaningful learning experience. Daily classes reinforce Spanish vocabulary words and phrases, providing children with the maximum opportunity to learn and practice their new language.
