MUSIC
The music program offers students the opportunity to explore music as a universal language, as well as means of artistic expression. Movement classes, based on the philosophy and principles of the Dalcroze approach, are designed to teach the basic elements of music through physical awareness and creative movement. The General Music classes, influenced by the teaching philosophy of Karl Orff, emphasize music making as a pathway to understanding and musical growth. Seasonal performances and “open classes” provide parents and families with the opportunity to experience first hand the musical explorations of our children.

DANCE
Dance and creative aerobics are taught at the River School with much enthusiasm. The children learn that dance is a joyous way of expressing themselves. The program varies from week to week and incorporates numbers, letters, and rhythm in each session. Materials and equipment are used to enhance gross motor skills and include parachute play, rhythm sticks, bean bags, balance beam, large and small foam shapes, mitts and balls. Multi-cultural dances from all around the world are included. Each session ends with an obstacle course. Sportsmanship is stressed at all times. The dance program is featured at River School performances.
